Choose Your Path

There are two walking routes, each offering a distinct experience of the Baptism Site:

The Main Path (Approx. 1.5 km)

A gentle and accessible walk, taking around 1 hour at an easy pace with time to pause and reflect.

Along this path, you will experience the heart of the site, including:

• John the Baptist’s Spring
• The site of the Baptism of Jesus Christ, surrounded by the remains of five ancient churches
• The Orthodox Church
• The pathway leading down to the River Jordan

This route is ideal for those seeking a focused visit to the most significant locations.

The Extended Path (Approx. 2.5 hours)

A deeper, more immersive journey for those who want to fully explore the richness of the site.

This route includes everything on the Main Path, and continues to reveal:

• Elijah’s Hill (Tell Mar Elias)
• The Cave of John the Baptist
• Byzantine-era churches and remains
• Wadi al-Kharrar (Saphsaphas) – the historic Reed Forest
• The Pilgrims’ Station
• Ancient water pools
• The Latin Catholic Church
• A continuous journey that concludes at the River Jordan
